There is no obligation to adopt by applying, nor guarantee of adoption, but it is the first step in the adoption process.
Our volunteers not only want what is best for the pet but, for the family too. A good match for both equals a happy life for all. For the latest list of pets available please click HERE!
All adoption fees include full set of vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping, heart worm testing (dogs) with Heartgard given, FIV/FeLV testing (cats), deworming, flea preventative applied and behavioral testing.
All dogs adopted from FLSF receive one free bath and nail trim from our sponsor, Main Street Pet Resort.
Adoption fees: $155 dog, $100 cat.
- Relinquish Fee

$50 base fee for relinquishing pets. Pets must be current on vaccinations, microchipped, and spay/neutered.
$75 for pets who are NOT spayed/neutered, microchipped, or up to date on vaccinations.
- Lost Pets

Please contact us if your pet is missing. A $10 per day boarding will be charged for all strays not picked up by the end of the business day they arrive.
- Volunteers

Join the dedicated volunteer team at the Fort Leavenworth Stray Facility!
The facility is a 99 percent volunteer-run animal shelter with one FMWR employee, the FLSF director. Our volunteers care for the cats and dogs at the shelter until we can find them their forever homes. As a volunteer, you can make a difference in the lives of these pets. Help is needed feeding cats and/or dogs, socializing pets, walking dogs, assisting with cleaning, fostering pets while they await adoption, mowing the yard and more. Family groups are welcome to volunteer together.
Teens ages 16 and older may volunteer without a parent, but the parent must attend the orientation with the teen volunteer.
We offer flexible shift times to fit busy schedules. Attend a volunteer orientation session at 10 a.m. the second Saturday or apply on the Volunteer Management Information System at https://vmis.armyfamilywebportal.com/ by entering ZIP code 66027 and searching for “stray animal facility.”
FLSF Mission: Reunite lost cats and dogs with their owners, care for and find homes for unclaimed strays/found pets and relinquished pets of Fort Leavenworth residents.
If you're interested in volunteering we have an orientation at 10 a.m. the second Saturday of each month (If the second Saturday falls on a holiday weekend, the orientation will be moved to the third Saturday of the month.)
