Barring spring flooding, the competition will be conducted between Sherman Army Airfield and the Missouri River on Fort Leavenworth in Area F. The competition’s focus is on a safe experience and dog training on game farm birds under live fire field hunting conditions.
A team consists of one dog (pointing or flushing), two hunters and 12 shotgun shells. At least three pheasants will be in the field for each team. Each team has 30 minutes in their designated field to work the dog. Each dog that appropriately points or flushes a pheasant will be awarded the Rod and Gun Club’s “Qualified Gun Dog” rosette. Prizes are awarded for the top qualifying teams in the pointing and flushing dog categories. The event is open to active-duty and retired service members, federal employees, their family members and invited guests.
• $60 for Rod and Gun Club members
• $70 for non-members
